Creative & Performing Arts
The Creative and Performing Arts are an essential part of a balanced education. By developing an appreciation and understanding of creative and artistic expression, students have the opportunity to celebrate the richness of human experience.
Instrumental Ensembles
St Bede’s currently offers students the opportunity to build on their musical skills by performing in instrumental and vocal ensembles. The ensembles include:
- Vocal Ensemble
- Concert Band
- Liturgical Ensemble – Years 8 – 10
- Male Vocal Ensemble – The Kingsmen
- Year 10 Rock Band
As student community grows more opportunities will be offered for our performing arts students. Some future ensembles may include: guitar ensemble, stage bands, jazz band and rock bands.
Peripatetic Music Program
St Bede’s offers students the opportunity to further their instrumental studies with private instrumental tuition on their chosen instrumental major.
Commencing in the foundation year, this programme and has continued to grow with over 60 students currently enrolled. Peripatetic music staff are onsite during school hours to offer specialist tutoring on the following instruments: Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums and Percussion, Vocals, Woodwind and Brass.
School musical productions
Musicals are a wonderful medium for a student community to show their talents simultaneously in dance, song and acting. These productions assist with the development of self confidence, positive relationships and resilience.




Science and Engineering
The Science and Engineering Challenge is an outreach program conducted nationally by the University of Newcastle. It is designed to inspire students to study science and engineering at a senior level.

Build Me a future Comp
Build ME a Future Days aim to foster interest and engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Year 7 and 8 students. The days are designed to bridge the gap between school and university, and to showcase how STEM careers can make a positive impact in the world.
Public Speaking
At St Bede’s College, students are encouraged to compete in Public Speaking at a Diocesan level.
Students have the opportunity to compete in DioSpeaks, a speaking competition in which students have the opportunity to connect with other peers across the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, enhancing their public speaking skills and confidence.

DioSounds
DioSounds is an annual event held at the Civic Theatre. It showcases the talents of the students and programs on offer at schools throughout the diocese. Each year, approximately 100 students from St Bede’s College performing arts program are selected to perform in the showcase.
Sport
St Bede’s provides its students with various opportunities to participate in a variety of sporting activities to enjoy and actively participate in physical activity.
Students are given the same opportunities as all other schools in our Diocese to participate in representative sports including, Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country, Cricket, Netball, Football (Soccer), AFL and Touch Football.





ASPIRE
ASPIRE is a diocesan program of excellence for students in the performing arts arena. Students audition in November each year for a place in the vocal ensemble, instrumental ensemble, drama ensemble and dance ensemble. Those who are selected attend weekly rehearsals in Semester 1 to prepare for a showcase in August each year.
